WHO ARE WE? · A movement of lay people dedicated to sharing in the Missionary Evangelization efforts of the Franciscans
in the · People who believe that the best way to thank God for his kindness is to pass it on, by sharing our God-given talents, time and treasure for the mission, especially to those most in need. |
WHAT DO WE DO AS FMU MEMBERS? · Support for the Franciscan Missions through prayer and material/financial contributions or pledges. · Collaboration in promoting Franciscan Missions in ‘Mission Promotion’ or ‘Animation Teams’. · Actual participation in the ministry of Franciscans in the Mission Areas. Any FMU member can choose to be involved in any or all of these activities, according to one’s capability and availability: Support
for the Franciscan · FMU members pray daily and offer some other personal devotion or sacrifice. They also participate in regular Eucharistic celebrations, all for the benefit of the Franciscan Missions. ·
Whatever any FMU member can afford to contribute are submitted as pledges, to ‘finance missionary
projects’ of the Franciscans in the
Cooperative effort in promoting Franciscan Missions · Those who can afford more time to share do so as MISSIONARY PROMOTERS, helping create awareness of the Franciscan Missionary efforts among other people, or · they join MISSION ANIMATION TEAMS, helping in the formation and training of FMU members, mission promoters and lay missionaries. Participating in Actual Missionary Activity · Those called and willing to offer a more full-time commitment to Missionary Evangelization ca volunteer as Franciscan Lay Missionaries. · They are sent to various mission areas where the Franciscans minister and are provided sufficient training and support through the Franciscan Lay Missionary Program (FLMP). Members of the Franciscan Missionary Union are considered benefactors and partners of the Franciscan Friars in Missionary Evangelization. Thus, they are accorded many spiritual benefits as provided by the FMU Statutes, like: · Sharing in the prayers and suffrages offered in the Franciscan Communities. · Privilege in recommending prayer intentions for their needs and those of others, which are included in a monthly Mass for FMU members, living and dead. · Plenary indulgence gained on the anniversary of one’s joining the FMU, and on particular feasts of Franciscan Saints like the Protomartyrs of the Order (January 16), the martyrs of Japan (February 6), St. Anthony of Padua (June 13), and St. Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Family (October 4). Aside from these, FMU members enjoy creative opportunities to be in touch with other persons who share a similar interest in the missions, and with people of various faiths and cultures through the ‘FMU Newsletter’ and through ’Mission Awareness Activities’, ‘Mission Exposure’ and ‘Immersion Programs.” The best thing about all these is… …it doesn’t take much to make them A meaningful part of your life. Join the FMU And help make a difference In the lives of others, And yours, too! There are no rigid qualifications necessary to be an FMU member.
The FMU Statutes says:
“…The sole condition for membership is the intention of sharing in and supporting the Missionary Evangelization by the Friars Minor.” In other words, all that is needed is the willingness to share a little of oneself for the Franciscan Missions, together with others who
share the same vision. |
